 As per need , we use 'The' to make Singular Countable Noun, Plural Countable Noun or Uncountable Noun definite.

( Here boys are plural Countable Noun)

Important uses of 'The' 

1.Before the names of Sea,Rivers, Oceans, Himalayas.

Like- The Ganges, The Red Sea, The Pacific Ocean 

2. Before the names of Directions -- The top, The bottom, The east, etc.

3. Before Adjectives of Superlative Degree--

He is the tallest boy in the school.

4.Before Ordinal Adjective

--Who was the first female President of India?
