Inspite of , despite, although - used to link different ideas and can be used at the beginning or in the middle of the sentence. 

We use Noun, gerund or a pronoun 

Example- 

1. He never made much fame, in spite of his success.

2. In spite of the pain in his shoulder, he completed his exam before time.

3. Despite having headache, she cooked food for us.

**It is common to use in spite of and despite with the expression 'the fact that' followed by subject and verb.
